Tampa, Fla. – (February 17, 2020) – On Tuesday, February 18, the Hillsborough County School Board will vote to approve the contract for Incoming Superintendent Addison Davis. Last month in a unanimous vote, our School Board selected Mr. Davis as our district’s next superintendent, capping a seven-month nationwide search.

After School Board members vote on the contract, Addison Davis and School Board Chair Melissa Snively will officially sign the contract in a short ceremony. The ceremony will take place in the School Board Auditorium during the board meeting, which begins at 4 p.m. Due to proclamations and School Board business, the signing is expected to take place around 5 p.m.

Mr. Davis will start in Hillsborough Schools on March 2, and work side by side with Superintendent Jeff Eakins during a two-week transition period. After Spring Break, Mr. Davis will become Acting Superintendent, with Superintendent Eakins on administrative leave until his contract ends on June 30. Mr. Davis will formally become Superintendent of Hillsborough Schools on July 1.

Mr. Davis has spent more than 20 years educating and supporting students in Florida. He began as a classroom teacher in Duval County and most recently served as Superintendent in Clay County, Florida. Within his first year in Clay County, he was named a 2017-2018 Superintendent to Watch by the National School Public Relations Association. This past year, he was a finalist for Florida’s Superintendent of the Year.

If approved by the School Board, Mr. Davis’ salary of $310,000 will be in line with large school districts across the state and allows Hillsborough County to be more competitive now and in the future with attracting national leaders to our district.
