Tampa, Fla. – (May 16, 2019) – Please join us on the new date and time, Friday, May 17, starting at 11 a.m.

Forget your typical ribbon-cutting ceremony, Hillsborough Schools is hosting a Sledgehammer Ceremony – literally breaking the ground of the old play court at Woodbridge Elementary – to pave the way for a new court for students.

Woodbridge Elementary School will be receiving two new play courts thanks to the half-penny sales tax referendum. It is also one of the schools that will be receiving an A/C overhaul this summer.

On Friday, May 17, at 11 a.m., please join Superintendent Jeff Eakins and School Board members as they don safety glasses, gloves and hard hats to take a swing at the concrete play court at Woodbridge Elementary in Town and Country, located at 8301 Woodbridge Blvd., Tampa, 33615.

After the Sledgehammer Ceremony, crews will rip up and remove the rest of the play court, getting the area ready for the new play area that will be poured and finished at a later time.

Media will be provided an update on the referendum projects that have been completed and those currently in progress. This just weeks, we expect to begin replacing or overhauling 21 school air conditioners and replacing aging roofs on 13 schools. In smaller projects, this year, we are replacing 50 playgrounds, tracks and athletic courts and investing more than $1 million in school security improvements.

The money will benefit students in every area of Hillsborough County, at all of our 235 schools. The projects across our district will be spread over the next ten years as our district receives the money.
