Hillsborough Students Shine Through Displays and Live Performances at the Florida State Fair

Tampa, Fla. – (February 5, 2019) – Students with Hillsborough County Public Schools will once again be active participants in the 2019 Florida State Fair by hosting two areas in the Florida Center. One display area includes 14 school exhibits that reinforce the district’s vision of “Preparing Students for Life,” and the other display will be a salute to Black History comprised of 16 exhibits created by schools and community members that “Celebrate African-American Legacies in the Arts and STEM.” The 2019 Florida State Fair lasts for 12 days, beginning Thursday, February 7 and ending on Monday, February 18.

On Student Day at the Fair, Friday, February 8, there will be celebrity visits in the Hillsborough Schools display area, including a book signing with Tony and Lauren Dungy, the McDonald’s Character Award Scholarship presentation and recognition of this year’s LEAD participants. There will also be live performances throughout the day in the Hillsborough Schools display area of the Florida Center; on the patio outside the display area; and from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on the outdoor Tampa Times stage, which is adjacent to the Florida Center.

All Hillsborough Schools students will receive a FREE ticket to the Fair from their schools to use for Student Day at the Fair on Friday, February 8. All students across our district are off on Friday, February 8.

To use their free ticket, students in grades 6-12 must present a valid Hillsborough County school-issued photo identification or equivalent as determined by Florida State Fair officials. All students entering after 6:00 p.m. must be accompanied by an adult, 21 years of age or older. This chaperone also will receive free admission.
