Tampa, Fla. – (July 24, 2018) – In a ceremony held Monday evening in Washington D.C., Hillsborough County Public Schools and MacDill Air Force Base were awarded the 2018 Pete Taylor Partnership of Excellence Award. Superintendent Jeff Eakins and School Board Chair Sally Harris, along with students and staff from Robinson High School and Tinker K-8 School and representatives from MacDill Air Force Base were on hand to accept the award (Photo 1, Photo 2, Photo 3, Photo 4).

Hillsborough County Public Schools and MacDill Air Force Base, through their partnership with the MacDill Council for Educational Excellence, were recognized in the category of Total Community Partnership for ensuring an inclusive, quality education for all military-connected children.

More than 7,200 military-connected students attend Hillsborough County Public Schools. These children face many challenges as a result of multiple transitions and redeployments with their families. Hillsborough County’s partnership is a unique relationship that is unlike any other military community across the country.

Back in 2011, the MacDill Council for Educational Excellence was created to better meet the needs of the military children and families we serve. The partnership had led to many changes which positively affect these students and their families, including improvements in policies and procedures, school choice options and the quality of educational offerings and supports.
