Ribbon Cutting for Beautiful Belmont Elementary

September 29, 2020 - Points of Pride

Walking into Belmont Elementary School in Ruskin, the first thing you notice are the large, green, open areas. It’s a gorgeous campus!

But as amazing as the outside is, it’s the inside of the buildings that makes this school truly special and state of the art.

Every classroom at Belmont Elementary has a huge smart screen television. The students love it and have become accustomed to the technology very quickly! Even the youngest students confidently walk up to the screen to do work. Each student also has access to their own laptop which they place at a charging station at the end of each day.

Tuesday, school and district officials, along with Hepner Architects and Allstate Construction, gathered for the ribbon cutting. Make no mistake, Belmont has been up and running since the first day of school but this was the first day everyone could get together to celebrate this brand new school and the people who made it a reality.

“When I started this journey it was late December. I first took the drive from Plant City, had to check my GPS a couple times!” said Principal Alan Black. “There was nothing but clear ground and dirt. I thought, this can’t be it—but after months of hard work, it has paid off.”

Belmont is nestled in the rapidly growing Belmont Subdivision off Gate Dancer Road. The roads are new, the sidewalks are new, the landscaping is pristine. Belmont is also the very first elementary school to be opened under the leadership of Superintendent Addison Davis. “As you walk this campus it is so innovative and beautiful. It feels like a college campus!” said Superintendent Davis. “Everything around it just talks about the care in every corner, every hallway, every interaction it shows what a cool place to come to school and come to educate children.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was largely held in the modern media center, a fact not lost on School Board Member Stacy Hahn, who’s a champion for literacy in the district. Dr. Hahn applauded the school’s staff and community for a strong grand opening.

“We have some amazing leadership at this school,” said Dr. Hahn. “Principal Black, we would not be here today if it weren’t for your leadership making sure this school was ready to open. The student’s will be successful, not only because of the leadership, but also because of this community. What a beautiful community this school sits in… and I know that’s also going to be part of the success of this school year.”
