Student Nutrition Services Preparing Grab-and-Go Meals for Students

March 19, 2020 - Trending in Schools

Student Nutrition Services is preparing thousands of grab-and-go bags for students to pick up while district buildings are closed. The state ordered all schools to close through April 15 due to coronavirus concerns.

Our district knows many students depend on school breakfast and lunches to get nutritious meals every day.  Around 63 percent of our students qualify for free and reduced priced meals. Now, any student who is need of a free breakfast and lunch can pick up food at 23 of our feeding sites across the district.

Each location will start serving food to those 18 years old and under on Monday, March 23, at 9 a.m. and remain open until 1 p.m. daily. We encourage parents and caregivers to drive to our locations. We will also be accepting walk-ups. The food will be distributed directly from our school buses which will be set up in the designated car line at the designated schools.

Students will receive food items like boxed raisins, fresh fruit, pretzels and cheese, milk, cereal bars and other non-perishable items.

"Everybody can't afford to panic buy," said Student Nutrition Services Manager Brenda Rau. "Everyone does not have two or three hundred dollars to stock up on items."

Rau and her team says they are pulling together because they know how important this service is to the community during such uncertainty.
