Month of the Military Child
We Honor Our Military Families!
In 1986, Secretary of Defense Caspar W. Weinberger, designated each April as The Month of the Military Child. During this month we honor our military families, especially our youngest heroes: the children, our students.
This designation lets us recognize our military-connected students and their families’ contributions to our country and community. These young heroes continue to inspire us despite the challenges that they face due to their unique situation, such as having a parent deployed for extended periods, changing schools and leaving friends.
Hillsborough County is home to approximately 4,600 children of active duty members as well as numerous children of reservist and veterans. Hillsborough County Schools salutes our military-connected students for their multiple moves, parent deployments and the many sacrifices they make as they serve alongside their parents.
Because purple is a color used to represent all military services, the theme "Purple Up" is used over the course of the month. We invite you to create a thank you message using the hashtag #HCPSCelebratesMOMC and share on social media.
