More than 500 Local Teachers Honored by State
Every day, teachers in Hillsborough County Public Schools are connecting our students to their future through engaged curriculum. The remarkable work by our teachers is seen in the successes of our students. And now the Florida Department of Education is honoring many teachers in Hillsborough County Public Schools as Florida High Impact Teachers.
The state recently announced this list of the highest impact teachers across the state based on state assessments. Hillsborough County Public Schools has 566 teachers on the list.
Florida Education Commissioner Pam Stewart says these teachers showed the most positive impact on student growth.
The Florida Department of Education conducted a recent analysis of student performance on statewide standardized assessments. The department used the most recent three years of data (2015-2016, 2014-2015, 2013-2014) based on the state-level value-added model (VAM), which is one part of an educator’s overall evaluation. Reading teachers (grades 4 – 10), Math educators (grades 4 – 8) and Algebra 1 teachers (grades 8 - 9) were eligible.
The state sent letters and a certificate to each teacher on the list recognizing their accomplishments.
In Hillsborough County Public Schools, we honor all teachers for going above and beyond for students in the classroom. Superintendent Jeff Eakins says this is yet another way to celebrate the tremendous work we see every day. “In Hillsborough County Public Schools, our teachers and staff are changing students’ lives by making sure they are on track to graduation. Our teachers ensure our students know they have someone at school to advocate for them, encourage them, and support them as we prepare them for life.”
Just under 9,000 teachers statewide were selected as High Impact Teachers.
